From morning sickness to frequent urination, pregnancy comes with a host of well-known symptoms that signal the arrival of new life.
During this time, the body undergoes a whirlwind of hormonal changes, often giving rise to the much-talked-about ‘pregnancy glow’.
However, after childbirth, as hormone levels begin to stabilise, some changes linger on. One of the most common and distressing among them is postpartum hair loss.
Why do women experience postpartum hair fall?
High levels of oestrogen and progesterone experienced during pregnancy prevent hair loss, inhibiting hair follicles across the body from shedding hair. This is also accompanied by excessive body hair growth, as the strands do not move into the oxygen phase. However, during childbirth, our body starts producing less and less oestrogen, resulting in the dying and falling of extra thick hair, which is then not replaced in the hair follicles. These strands come out in clumps, making your strands look thinner in comparison. Let’s see some natural ways to deal with this change.
1. Egg white hair mask
Eggs are a rich source of protein and are an effective treatment experiment for hair loss post-childbirth. Simply mix the whites of 1 egg and add 2 spoons of olive oil with 1 spoon of honey to make a thick paste. Apply this hair mask and let it stay for 20 minutes. Wash it off with a gentle shampoo and see visible improvement in the growth, shine, colour, and overall strength.
2. Fenugreek hair mask
Used since the Vedic period, fenugreek is heavily used in Ayurveda to treat hair loss issues. You need to soak ½ cup of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and strain them the next day, blending them into a paste-like consistency. Apply this thick hair mask and let it remain for 30 minutes. Wash it off gently and rinse your hair strands using the water you had soaked the seeds in to see a great improvement.
3. Aloe vera hair mask
Extract a cup of fresh aloe vera gel from the plant directly and apply it to your scalp and strands. Leave it for 30 minutes and gently wash your head with a shampoo, followed by a conditioner. Aloe vera is extremely effective for your hair, as it increases blood circulation to the scalp and encourages hair growth as well. Keeping your scalp itch-free provides enough moisture to the scalp.
