South Africans have been left stunned and heartbroken after the tragic death of TikTok content creator Sqiniseko Mvelase, who was fatally shot while livestreaming to his followers.

Sqiniseko, known for his bold reviews and commentary on maskandi music, Mvelase was engaging with his audience on 29 May 2025 when his life was cut short in a horrific on-camera attack.

The young creator, originally from KwaMaphumulo in KwaZulu-Natal, had relocated to Nigel in Ekurhuleni, where the deadly incident took place.

During the live broadcast, viewers reportedly heard gunshots ring out before the stream abruptly ended.

It’s believed the attacker fired more than 15 shots. A short clip circulating online captures the final seconds, showing Mvelase attempting to flee before the screen went black.

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway, but no motive has been established yet.

“We can confirm a case of murder is being investigated,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Nevhuhulwi, as quoted by the *Daily Sun*.

Mvelase’s death has sparked widespread grief and concern online, with many expressing condolences and outrage over the violence.

His friend Thabang Khumalo shared that funeral arrangements were already in progress the day after the tragedy.

Reactions across social media have been mixed, with some mourning his loss and others reflecting on the bold nature of his content.

One user, @Wanda855669465, commented: “I heard the guy was quite provocative. He would insult people and say what he wished to say to them. I guess it’s one of those he insulted, but condolences to his family, friends and followers.”

Another user, @OneNation70290, added: “Violence and targeted hits are out of control in South Africa. It is very sad.”

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 as the investigation continues.
