Eggs are known for their numerous health benefits. Eggs are rich in protein and are highly beneficial for building muscles.
Over the years, awareness about keeping a healthy body has risen significantly. To keep a healthy mind, a healthy diet is required.
Whenever we talk about a healthy diet, eggs often top the list. Thanks to its rich nutrition profile, the demand for eggs keeps rising, and the consistent demand often gives the market a scope to indulge in adulteration, and it affects the supply chain significantly.
Now, a new problem has arisen to meet the demand in the market and earn extra money.
Yes, you heard that right—fake eggs. These eggs look similar to real eggs but are made of synthetic materials and harmful chemicals. Eating these eggs can cause significant damage to your health.

These eggs are low cost to make and have a higher profitability than raw eggs.

How is it made?
Fake eggs are made to look like real eggs, but in reality, chemicals are used in them.
Egg White
Egg white in fake eggs is made of sodium alginate, gelatin, starch, benzoic acid, and water.

Egg Yolk

Egg yolk in fake eggs is made with resin, pigment, and coagulants.
These materials are then molded to mimic real eggs’ shape, texture, and appearance.
Eating eggs filled with such a harmful variety of chemicals can take a significant toll on the body. It has been highlighted by research report. Here are the side effects of eating these fake eggs:

1. Neurological damage

Due to various synthetic compounds involved, especially industrial resins and dyes, they can damage the central nervous system. Eating these eggs regularly can cause headaches, dizziness, and memory loss.

2. Digestive issues

Due to artificial compounds present in them, fake eggs cannot be digested properly. This can cause stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, and indigestion.

3. Toxic poisoning

Due to ingredients like formaldehyde, plasticizers, or petroleum-based compounds, these can mix into the blood and damage internal organs, such as causing liver toxicity, kidney failure, and toxin accumulation.

4. Hormonal disruption

Hormonal synthetic chemicals can block human hormones and act as endocrine disruptors. This could lead to irregular periods and fertility issues, and lower testosterone levels in men.

5. Nutritional deficiency

Because the entire egg is fake, it contains no real protein, vitamins, or minerals. Due to the lack of nutrition, it can cause malnutrition if consumed regularly instead of real food.

There are multiple ways to find if eggs is real or not.

How to identify these eggs

Due to their similarity with real eggs, it sometimes becomes hard to distinguish between real and fake eggs. But don’t worry—FSSAI introduced few tests you can use to find out if the egg is fake or not:

  • Shell texture and appearance
Fake egg shells are smooth and glossy, whereas real eggs are slightly rough.
  • Weight test
Fake eggs may feel lighter or sometimes heavier, depending on the material used while making them.
  • Shake test
Fake eggs make no sound, but you can hear a soft yolk moving in a real egg if you shake it properly.
  • Bounce test
You can randomly select eggs and drop them from a height of 1 or 2 feet. Fake eggs may bounce or not break at all, whereas real eggs will crack easily.
