Siv Ngesi reacts to Tyler Perry’s ‘Straw’

South African actor and TV presenter Siv Ngesi didn’t hold back when he shared his thoughts on Tyler Perry’s latest Netflix offering, Straw.

The media personality took to social media to express his strong dislike for the film, which stars Taraji P. Henson in the lead role.

Siv, known for his performance in Netflix’s Unseen, admitted he couldn’t even finish the movie. “No guys, Tyler P needs to stop making trash [movies]. Straw is bloody terrible. I could only do 30 minutes,” he posted on X.

His comments quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing and others hitting back in defense of the emotional drama.

The movie, Straw, tells the story of a single mother juggling two jobs to support her sick daughter, only to reach a breaking point after a string of hardships.

While some viewers said the film had them in tears within the first half-hour, others found its twist, that the mother was hallucinating the entire time, either powerful or predictable.

Ngesi’s harsh review didn’t go unnoticed.

One user, @lavidaNOTA, quipped, “It’s for single mothers, not single women.”

Another, @Nicola, cautioned the actor, “Considering that you are also an actor stuck in SA. Tyler is someone you’ll need in this industry of yours.”

However, not everyone was against his view. Some backed him, calling the film “overhyped” and “melodramatic.”

Others even compared it unfavorably to local productions, with @neogwala commenting, “It is better than someone’s dying skills and falling into a pool. Far better.”
