Mihlali Ndamase commits to lifelong sobriety

Mihlali Ndamase is taking another bold step in her journey toward sobriety, and this time, she says, it’s for life.

The popular influencer, who once attempted a 30-day alcohol detox back in 2023, is now doubling down on her commitment after successfully passing the one-month mark again.

Back then, she spoke with pride about how good she felt during her break from drinking.

“I did it. I’m at my happiest, at the peak of my productivity, and healthiest alcohol-free,” she shared.

“This has been by far the best decision I’ve made for my life.” But despite those words, she eventually relapsed.

Now, Mihlali says the difference is in her mindset. She’s no longer viewing sobriety as a short-term challenge but a lifestyle change.

“If I can make it through one month and move into a second, then I can keep going, even for a lifetime,” she said.

Her reasons are rooted in both wellness and practicality.

“Alcohol takes away from my work and productivity. I spend a lot of money, it’s a waste of money,” she added.

“Now, I wake up fresh and have more time to focus on what matters.”

For Mihlali, the benefits of cutting out alcohol go beyond physical health. It’s also about gaining mental clarity, control, and a deeper sense of purpose.

“People can have fun without being drunk,” she said. “Please don’t make me regret opening up to you guys. I did it for a month without anyone policing me, and I know I can do it again.”

“I know why I quit and the impact it’s had on my life. I don’t need discouraging remarks, and yes, I’m being sensitive about it because this is something very close to my heart.”
