Don’t mix these 6 fruits together, here’s why

Fruit is one of the healthiest foods you can eat — packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and natural sugars that nourish the body.

But not all fruit combinations are good for your digestion or nutrient absorption. In fact, mixing certain fruits together can lead to bloating, gas, stomach discomfort, or even reduce the benefits of what you’re eating.

Here are 6 fruit combinations you should avoid mixing — and why your gut will thank you:

1.  Citrus fruits + Milk or dairy

The acids in citrus fruits can cause milk to curdle in your stomach, leading to gas, bloating, or indigestion. This combo is particularly hard for children and those with sensitive digestion.

2. Watermelon + Any other fruit

Watermelon digests extremely quickly, and when paired with slower-digesting fruits, it can ferment in the gut. This leads to gas, bloating, and discomfort.

3. Bananas + Oranges

Bananas are sweet and heavy, while oranges are acidic and fast-digesting. Together, they can clash in the gut and cause nausea or sluggish digestion — especially for young children or people with sensitive stomachs.

4. Pineapple + Mango

Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which can cause reactions when mixed with other sweet, enzyme-rich tropical fruits like mango. This mix may irritate the stomach lining in sensitive people.

5. Apples + Oranges

Apples are sweet and fibrous, while oranges are acidic and watery. Mixing them can slow down digestion and lead to gut fermentation or bloating.

6. Berries + Sweet tropical fruits (like mango or papaya)

Berries are slightly acidic and low in sugar, while tropical fruits are sweet and high in starch. The digestive enzymes required to break them down differ, causing a traffic jam in your digestive system.
