Amor Vittone insists she is Joost van der Westhuizen’s widow

Singer and media personality Amor Vittone has spoken out to clarify long-standing confusion around her marital status with late Springbok legend Joost van der Westhuizen at the time of his death.

In a recent interview with Martin Bester on Jacaranda FM, Vittone addressed the speculation, which stems from the couple having initiated divorce proceedings back in 2010.

Despite their separation, the legal divorce was never finalized before Joost passed away in 2017 following a lengthy battle with motor neurone disease.

During the interview, Amor shared her frustration over public debates about her personal life, particularly when she’s referred to as Joost’s widow.

“Those kinds of things, it does baffle me,” she said. “And another thing that people often go on about and they fight on social media about it is the fact that when people or when the article says ‘widowed.’ We weren’t divorced. I am widowed. Yes, does it make a difference? Why are people fighting?”

The former Lotto presenter added that she’s simply trying to focus on living a fulfilling life and isn’t interested in engaging with online criticism.

“At the end of the day, I just want to live a life where I’m enjoying what I do, which I am, and kind of leave the noise behind,” she concluded.

Since Joost’s passing, Vittone has been involved in ongoing legal disputes concerning his estate and will, adding further complexity to the public’s perception of their relationship.
