Somizi Mhlongo’s company allegedly faces asset auction over unpaid wages

Somizi Mhlongo’s company, Search Light Pty Ltd, is allegedly in trouble with the law after the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) reportedly ordered the sheriff to seize its assets over unpaid wages.

According to a report by MDN News, the company, co-directed by Mhlongo and Lindo Maleho, is accused of failing to pay employee salaries amounting to R165,402.62.

The affected workers were placed at Transnet in the Carlton Centre and were allegedly dismissed without warning or a disciplinary hearing in April 2025.

The CCMA’s enforcement award, issued on 23 June 2025, reportedly authorizes the seizure and auction of Search Light Pty Ltd’s movable assets to recover the outstanding wages and interest for April, May, and June.

A former employee told MDN News, “We received no warning or hearing; we were simply let go.”

The ruling has been welcomed by Thabiso Putswe of the Hetelicca Trade Union, who also noted that a separate unfair dismissal claim is still under review.
