General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is earning widespread admiration, with activist and poet Ntsiki Mazwai among those singing his praises.

Following his recent high-stakes press conference on 6 July, where he made explosive claims against senior police figures, Mazwai took to social media to commend not only his courage but also his impressive academic and professional background.

Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Mazwai revealed that she had taken time to research the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner and was blown away by his credentials.

General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s credentials are impressive,” she wrote, going on to list his academic accomplishments and specialised training.

Mkhwanazi holds both a B-Tech in Policing and a National Diploma in Police Administration.

His expertise doesn’t end there, he’s received counter-terrorism investigation training in the United States, earned certification in bomb disposal in South Africa, and completed Crisis Response Team Training abroad.

These qualifications, according to Mazwai, are a strong indicator of why he commands such respect and why his approach to crime is so unwavering.

Starting his career as a student constable in 1993, Mkhwanazi has steadily climbed the ranks within the South African Police Service.

Over the years, he has taken on several high-level roles, including Head of the Special Task Force, Divisional Commissioner for Human Resource Development, acting National Commissioner, and now Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal.

His portfolio includes overseeing tactical response, counter-terrorism, hostage negotiation, and bomb disposal units.

Mazwai summed up her admiration by saying, “Given his educational background, it is no wonder that General Mkhwanazi takes a strong stance against crime, ibethiwe ke lendoda. Ayo candre deployment le.”
