MaMkhize not linked to  Vusimuzi Matlala’s firearms

Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is ready to take legal action after being dragged into a scandal involving controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The reality star and entrepreneur became a trending topic after Ian Cameron, chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, claimed firearms recovered during a police raid at her La Lucia mansion belonged to Matlala’s security company.

An investigation by IOL revealed that MaMkhize had no connection to Matlala or the alleged criminal dealings surrounding him.

Ian Cameron later admitted he had made a mistake, saying the firearms in question belonged to Vusi Xaba, not Matlala.

“I can confirm that it was a slip-up with the name and that the guns did in fact belong to Vusi Xaba and not Matlala,” Cameron said in an interview.

“However, while the ownership was legal, the storage of the arms was illegal.”

But MaMkhize isn’t taking the matter lightly; through her lawyer, Mpho Nefuri, she has threatened legal action unless Cameron publicly retracts his statement and issues an apology.

Nefuri dismissed Cameron’s explanation, insisting that the entire claim was baseless and damaging to MaMkhize’s reputation.

“My client’s name was erroneously linked to criminal activity, wherein even SAPS was mentioned to give the false claim credence,” Nefuri said.

“There’s been no report from SAPS to say the arms were illegally owned or stored, and my client does not even know this Vusi Matlala.”

Despite acknowledging his error, Cameron has stood firm on one point: that the weapons, though legally owned, were illegally kept on MaMkhize’s property.

The incident has sparked divided reactions online.

While some social media users criticised Cameron for rushing to conclusions, others maintained he had a point, even if he got the names wrong.

One user wrote, “Yeh, he was wrong, but it still belongs to a thug.”

Another added, “Ian Cameron was busy trying to be relevant that time he never did anything when these allegations were first mentioned by Mkhwanazi in March.”
