‘Cosby Show’ star passed away
American actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on the iconic sitcom The Cosby Show, has tragically passed away at the age of 54.
Warner died after drowning on Sunday while swimming at Cocles Beach in Costa Rica, according to local authorities.
Police confirmed that Warner was swept away by a strong current.
Despite efforts by bystanders to help, Red Cross lifeguards pronounced him dead at the scene.
His body has since been transported to a mortuary for further examination.
Warner rose to fame for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable, the witty and relatable son in the Huxtable family, during the show’s eight-season run from 1984 to 1992.
His performance earned him widespread recognition and an Emmy nomination, with many praising his ability to bring sincerity and depth to the role.
“Malcolm brought warmth and authenticity to Theo, making him a character millions connected with,” said his former co-star Phylicia Rashad in a heartfelt statement. “His loss is devastating.”
Though The Cosby Show helped redefine television with its portrayal of a successful Black family, its legacy has been complicated in recent years by sexual assault allegations involving creator and lead actor Bill Cosby.
Outside of his breakout role, Warner continued to build a successful career in television, starring in Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines, and gaining respect for his range and longevity in the industry.
News of Warner’s sudden death has shocked fans and peers alike, with many taking to social media to share memories and tributes to the star.
