Lasizwe opens up about donation scandal

Lasizwe Dambuza is revisiting one of the most painful chapters of his career, the donation scandal that once threatened to destroy his reputation.

The popular content creator recently took to social media to reflect on the backlash he endured after launching the #R10GoesALongWay initiative in 2021.

The campaign, aimed at helping underprivileged university students pay their registration fees, quickly gained traction, with Lasizwe, his celebrity friends, and public donors raising R2 million.

However, after the initiative ended, suspicions began to swirl online.

Social media users questioned where the money went, sparking allegations that Lasizwe had pocketed the funds.

Accusations of fraud and mismanagement followed him for years, despite attempts to clarify the situation.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Four years ago, I was dragged through the mud over claims that I stole R2 million yama students, which was false and it’s lies. Till this day, that accusation still haunts me.”

Lasizwe said the ordeal left lasting emotional scars.

“I’m seeing people joking about it now, but you don’t understand the damage it caused. I’ve spent four years trying to clear my name from something I didn’t do.”

Although the controversy has been addressed publicly before, including the emergence of a list detailing the 166 students who allegedly benefited from the donations, public opinion remains divided.

While some fans offered comfort and expressed support, others continued to cast doubt on his innocence.
