Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial case closed
After three long years in court, the state has officially wrapped up its case in the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Speaking before the Pretoria High Court, State prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi confirmed the decision.
“That concludes the leading of the evidence for the state, and we close the state’s case. It’s been three years since the state started leading evidence.”
The trial has been closely followed by the public since it began in 2022, revolving around the 2014 murder of the beloved Bafana Bafana captain.
Five men, Bongani Ntanzi, Muzi Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli stand accused of murder, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
All five have pleaded not guilty.
Meyiwa was shot at the Vosloorus home of singer Kelly Khumalo, who was his girlfriend at the time.
Tensions flared in court this week when Fisokuhle Ntuli requested to be transferred from Kgosi Mampuru II prison to Leeuwkop Prison, citing torture allegations.
The claim temporarily halted proceedings, delaying a scheduled police witness testimony.
