Major League DJz frown at podcasts for chasing clouts
Popular music duo Major League DJz have sparked intense debate on social media following their blunt criticism of the current podcasting culture.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the DJz shared their frustration over what they see as a growing trend of sensationalism in the podcast space.
“These podcasts are getting out of hand now… Ppl are just saying things for reactions and trends. SMH,” they wrote.
The tweet, which quickly gained traction, divided social media users.
While some supported the duo’s concerns, others felt the DJs were overreacting or misdirecting their energy.
One user criticised the timing of their commentary, saying, “One thing about South African celebrities, when we’re facing serious problems as a country they keep quiet, but when it’s something useless they always have something to say… and besides that, broer said ‘Apparently’ and now you guys are already coming for podcasts??? Niyanya!”
Another weighed in on the duo’s own place in culture, stating, “Bru, they call you guys culture vultures, but that doesn’t make sense when you look at your careers.”
Others took a more dismissive tone.
“You don’t hear us complain when you jump on whatever genre that’s popping,” one user replied, referring to the duo’s constant reinvention within music trends.
Someone else simply wrote: “Why u care, let them eat.”
