Siya Kolisi tops list of greatest rugby captain of all time

Springboks skipper Siya Kolisi has been crowned the greatest rugby captain in history, according to a poll conducted by RUCK.

Since taking on the leadership role in 2018, Kolisi has earned global respect for his composed, strategic approach both on and off the field.

The 32-year-old’s captaincy has been nothing short of historic.

As the first Black player to lead the Springboks, Kolisi’s journey represents a powerful chapter in South Africa’s sporting transformation.

His ability to unite teammates and inspire fans has redefined what leadership means in rugby.

Guiding South Africa through high-stakes battles with unwavering calm, Kolisi’s crowning moments include lifting the Rugby World Cup trophy in both 2019 and 2023.

His leadership style, marked by resilience, emotional intelligence, and leading by example, has made him a symbol of hope far beyond the game.

In the RUCK poll, Kolisi’s name appeared alongside rugby royalty such as England’s Martin Johnson, New Zealand’s Richie McCaw, and fellow South African Francois Pienaar.

Yet, it was the man from Zwide whose achievements and influence ultimately earned him the top spot.
