‘Uzalo’ production halted
The cast of South Africa’s most-watched soapie, Uzalo, are facing financial strain after going without pay for more than two months.
The show’s production company, Stained Glass TV, confirmed that filming has been halted due to ongoing payment delays from the SABC.
Entertainment reporter @TVwithThinus revealed on X that several actors have no other source of income and are struggling to cover their living expenses.
“Actors on SABC1’s @Official_SABC1, Uzalo @Uzalo_SABC1 say they haven’t been paid for 2 months, have no other form of income, and can’t pay their bills,” he wrote.
While the SABC has denied that the soapie is on a production break, insiders maintain that work has stopped and salaries remain unpaid.
Reports suggest that the broadcaster has been consistently late in paying the production company.
In an official statement, Stained Glass TV confirmed the shutdown:
“We regret to inform you that, due to severe cash flow constraints, we are compelled to pause production with immediate effect.”
The company added that they are in active discussions with the SABC to find a resolution, with hopes to resume production as soon as possible.
