Former Muvhango actress and veteran TV presenter Busisiwe Kunene has returned to the spotlight with a new venture.
Known to many for her role as Agnes on the SABC2 soapie, Busisiwe is now channeling her energy into Precious Moments, a platform she says is designed to reflect the real-life experiences of South Africans from all walks of life.
“I’ve been a TV presenter since 1996 on Eco Act, an environmental programme. I moved on to Sasko Sam and later co-hosted Young Tongues with Bonginkosi ‘Zola 7’ Dlamini on Take 5, where we tackled social issues such as teenage pregnancy,” she recalled.
While her career has spanned decades, Busisiwe admitted the entertainment space has changed dramatically.
“The industry is not as accommodating as before, so I decided to employ myself,” she said, explaining how that decision led her into podcasting.
“This is not a gossip or celebrity podcast. We talk to people from all walks of life, the sort of stories an ordinary South African would want to hear and engage with,” she added.
Guests so far have included Felicia Goosen, who was born in a prison in Thailand while her mother faced drug smuggling charges; Phinah Kodisang, CEO of the Soul City Institute, who shared her inspiring leadership journey; and Tebogo Majolane, who left a media sales career to start a mentorship initiative for young boys.
Though Precious Moments is currently self-funded, Busisiwe hopes to secure sponsorships to expand its reach.
“The vision is to see it grow to greater heights beyond South African borders,” she said, noting with pride that the podcast has already reached listeners as far as Asmara, Eritrea.
New episodes are released every second month on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.
