Thabo Bester and Nandipha stop release of documentary about them

Convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester, together with his partner Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, has filed an urgent court application in a bid to stop Netflix from releasing its highly anticipated true-crime series Beauty and the Bester.

The documentary, scheduled to premiere on September 12, explores the pair’s dramatic 2022 prison escape, their extravagant double life while on the run, and the massive manhunt that ended with their arrest in Tanzania.

The news of their legal move has ignited heated debate online, with many South Africans expressing frustration that the notorious couple still have the audacity to make demands despite being convicted criminals.

One outraged user commented: “You wanna prove that our justice system is kak? Thabo Bester and Nandiphi still have demands, while they are convicted criminals. Till to date, they aren’t even sentenced!”

Others, however, questioned the couple’s motives for trying to block the series: “Why are they blocking it? This will make people more interested.”

Some sympathized with Dr. Nandipha’s family, suggesting the series could cause further pain.

“Her husband and her children are going to be traumatized. I agree that the Netflix series should be blocked. Now is not the time to gossip and speculate, but for everyone involved to heal.”

Yet, another commenter argued that the documentary would not reveal anything new.

“Everything that will be in the documentary is already public knowledge and has been widely published. So how will this infringe on any of their rights?”

The court’s decision on whether to halt the release of Beauty and the Bester is now eagerly awaited, with Netflix viewers and critics alike curious to see how the saga will unfold.
