Khanyi Mbau bags Best Actress nomination for her role in Netflix’s ‘Meet the Khumalos’
South African actress and media personality Khanyi Mbau has received a nomination for Best Actress in Film at the upcoming National Film & TV Awards, earning recognition for her outstanding performance in Netflix’s hit romantic comedy Meet the Khumalos.
Mbau plays the role of Grace Khumalo, a stylish and confident suburban wife whose picture-perfect life begins to unravel in ways she never expected.
The film, which premiered on Netflix in April 2025, tells the story of two mothers-turned-rivals whose long-standing feud intensifies when their children unexpectedly fall in love.
Set between township roots and suburban opulence, Meet the Khumalos highlights themes of family rivalry, class, and the evolution of South African identity.
The movie features an impressive ensemble cast including Ayanda Borotho, Jesse Suntele, and the late Connie Chiume, who delivers her final on-screen performance.
Speaking to Glamour, Mbau described her character as “a girlie girl who literally lives in her own bubble,” adding that the role allowed her to explore both vulnerability and humor.
She also spoke fondly of the filming experience, calling it one of her career highlights.
