Tresor honoured with global ‘Courage of Art’ award in Italy
African music continues to make waves on the world stage, and this time, the spotlight is on multi-award-winning artist Tresor.
The celebrated singer, songwriter, and producer has been named one of the 2025 laureates of the prestigious Res Publica International Awards, an annual recognition given to individuals and organisations whose work promotes peace, creativity, and civic courage.
Held in Mondovì, Italy, the ceremony honours outstanding contributions in four categories: peace and solidarity, environmental harmony, ethical journalism, and the courage of art.
This year, Tresor took home the ‘Courage of Art’ award, a tribute to his unwavering dedication to using music as a tool for unity and change.
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and now based in South Africa, Tresor’s journey is a remarkable story of hope and perseverance.
From fleeing his home country as a refugee to becoming one of Africa’s most influential musicians and producers, he has consistently used his platform to inspire others to rise above adversity.
His sound, a blend of African rhythm, modern soul, and pop has become a global symbol of creativity rooted in identity.
In their official statement, the Res Publica jury applauded Tresor for his “artistic and courageous talent to guide public opinion in the struggle to end war and violence in Africa.”
They highlighted his music’s power to foster peace, empathy, and solidarity across borders.
Reflecting on the honour, Tresor shared his gratitude with fans and supporters: “On October 25, 2025, I was deeply honoured and humbled to receive The Courage of Art Award from Premio Res Publica in Italy. This recognition is a reminder of why I create and who I create for. Through art, I’ve found a way to shift the narrative of refugees and African youth to one that tells stories of resilience, beauty, and hope. This is a lifelong purpose, and I look forward to many more great things to come.”
