DStv to drop major channels as BET Africa rushes out final Black Gold episodes

DStv viewers are bracing for major changes as several long-running and well-loved channels prepare to go off air at the start of 2026.
The pay-TV giant is reportedly discontinuing BET Africa, MTV Base, CBS Justice and CBS Reality; a decision that has stirred concern among loyal fans, especially with some shows currently nearing their end.
The news intensified after entertainment journalist TVwithThinus announced on 29 November 2025 that DStv had removed four major channels.
“Shockingly sad. @BET_Africa, @MTVBaseAfrica, CBS Justice, and CBS Reality axed on @DStv after decades,” he wrote on X.
BET Africa has also responded to ongoing chatter surrounding its telenovela Black Gold, which many believed had abruptly halted production.
While fans feared the worst, the channel clarified that the show would air double episodes from 22 December 2025 to ensure every filmed episode reaches viewers before the channel officially shuts down.
The channel first launched in April 2015 and will end almost exactly a decade later.
MultiChoice confirmed the discontinuation of BET Africa and MTV Base across both DStv and GOtv from 1 January 2026.
In their place, viewers will see temporary channels including The Holiday Channel (198), DStv 30 Channel (197), FliekNet (149), and SS Afcon (202 and 222).
