Shebeshxt faces over R2m in possible refunds as bail delay forces promoters to cancel festive gigs
Controversial rapper Shebeshxt is once again dominating social media conversation after reports claimed he may have to refund more than R2 million worth of bookings.
This comes after his bail hearing in the Polokwane magistrate’s court was postponed, leaving him behind bars during one of the busiest periods on the entertainment calendar.
The Limpopo artist was billed for several high-profile December shows, but with his bail application now pushed to 19 January, promoters have been left with no choice but to pull the plug on his appearances.
Industry sources say some organisers have already started requesting refunds, while others have taken to social platforms to vent about the financial blow and the chaos caused by the sudden changes.
Online, reactions have been mixed, ranging from frustration to sympathy.
One user commented, “Promoters must be crying. December losses are no joke.”
Another criticised the situation, writing, “This thing of booking artists with ongoing cases always ends in tears. We warned them.”
Not everyone was harsh, though. Some showed compassion for the rapper’s situation, with one person saying, “Whether you like him or not, Shebe is going through a lot. Hope justice takes its course.”
Fans who were hoping to see him perform also didn’t hide their disappointment.
“We were ready for his set this weekend. Now everything is cancelled. Yoh! December ruined,” a user lamented.
So far, Shebeshxt’s team has not issued any official statement about the alleged refund demands or the cancelled shows.
The rapper will remain in custody until his next court appearance on January 19, when his legal team is expected to resume their bid for bail
