DJ Tira announces the end of FACT

DJ Tira, real name Mthokozi Khathi, has officially released a statement about the future of the annual FACT Durban Rocks event.

Taking to social media, the Afrotainment boss revealed that this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration will be the last one hosted by the current team, and the brand will be put up for sale in January 2026.

In his statement, Tira explained that the decision follows months of public concern about the city’s early closing times for New Year’s Eve events.

He said the team had been monitoring the situation before making a final call.

“Since July, we have received many concerns about us closing early at midnight for NYE, and we understand those sentiments. We wanted to observe how the response would be regarding the New Year’s Eve closing times from the city before determining our next steps.”

Reflecting on the event’s journey, Tira highlighted FACT’s long-running history, noting how it has operated from 6pm to 6am twice a year since 2011.

He also celebrated the event’s resilience, saying they were “the first brand to emerge from COVID with two picnics and the only event to host two outdoor broadcasts during that challenging period.”

This December marks the 30th FACT event, which Tira described as a significant milestone and the perfect moment to allow new talent to take over.

“This New Year’s Eve will be the final event organized by the current partners. In January 2026, the FACT brand and its trademarks will be put up for sale.”

Tira expressed deep gratitude to fans, sponsors and supporters who kept the brand alive for over a decade.

He thanked the city, province, partners such as SAB and Schweppes, and the loyal attendees who showed up “through rain or shine” and embraced the late-night tradition the event became known for.

He ended the statement with a heartfelt message to the community that built FACT Durban Rocks into one of the country’s biggest year-end events.

“Thank you for being part of our journey. It has been an honor to serve this community of Fact Fans and hopefully we see you for one more time.”

The final FACT Durban Rocks will take place on 31 December, running from 2pm to 2am under the theme #OneLastFact.
