South African music star Zee Nxumalo made a bold fashion statement at the 31st South African Music Awards after stepping out in a dress designed by media personality and fashion graduate Somizi Mhlongo.
Somizi dominated fashion conversations throughout the day, having also designed Makhadzi’s dramatic white gown for the same event.
While Makhadzi’s look received widespread criticism online, Zee’s outfit sparked a mixed response, drawing both praise and backlash from social media users.
The amapiano singer shared photos of her SAMA look on social media, captioning the post, “Somizi said ‘Zee let’s put on a show’ at the SAMAs,” suggesting the outfit was intentionally dramatic.
Reactions on X were divided. Some users questioned the honesty of celebrity friendships, with one writing, “Celebrities are the biggest liars. They KNOW when something is trash, but they’ll still wear it just to protect friendship and look supportive. No honesty, just fake smiles and forced confidence.”
Another user commented, “He did Makhadzi dirty,” while one viewer added, “Doesn’t look comfortable at all!”
Others were more critical of Somizi’s fashion credentials altogether.
