Emtee responds after sleeping-on-stage video sparks backlash
Emtee has finally broken his silence after a video showing him appearing to sleep during a live stage performance sparked heavy criticism online.
The South African rapper took to X to defend himself, addressing complaints often directed at artists during the hectic festive season.
In a strongly worded post, Emtee pushed back against assumptions that performers are always under the influence when things go wrong on stage.
“Yeah yeh I know there’s always complaints about artists, gigs etc especially in December. We human gang! Niggas only understand if and when you in a car accident. Mane y’all taking us to foreign lands, expecting niggas tomorrow perform like MJ,” he wrote.
In a follow-up post, the rapper made it clear that exhaustion, not substance abuse, was behind the incident.
He said the demanding nature of festive season bookings takes a toll on artists, often forcing them to perform under risky and draining conditions.
“Mane I be tired FR, f*** all he’s high sh*t. Don’t book den nigga,” Emtee added.
“It’s festive season. I could be cooling with family and spending quality time, not putting my life at risk for peanuts.”
His comments have further divided social media, with some fans sympathising with his frustrations and agreeing that artists are often overworked in December.
Others, however, argued that professionalism should still be upheld, especially when fans pay to attend shows.
