Johannesburg authorities identify person of interest in DJ Warras’ murder
Johannesburg’s MMC for Community Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, has provided an update on the investigation into the shocking death of DJ Warras, who was shot and killed in the city’s CBD on 16 December 2025.
Tshwaku revealed that the South African Police Service has made progress in the case, identifying a woman as a person of interest.
She is reportedly a tenant of the Zambesi Building in the CBD and is allegedly linked to a network involved in hijacked buildings across the city.
DJ Warras had previously obtained a protection order against her.
“We believe that it was a hit directed at him. There has been a lot of intimidation in his life. The people of interest have been issuing threatening statements,” Tshwaku said.
DJ Warras was reportedly in the CBD with personnel from his security company to install cameras and biometric systems when he was fatally shot.
Tshwaku added that a close associate of Warras, as well as others cited in the protection orders, will also be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Another person who frequently accompanied Warras to the CBD has been identified as a further person of interest.
