Two suspects questioned as SAPS confirms breakthrough in DJ Warras murder case

SAPS shares update on DJ Warras’ murder

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed a significant development in the investigation into the murder of popular media personality DJ Warras, revealing that two suspects have been taken in for questioning.

The update was shared on Monday, 22 December 2025, after Gauteng police intensified their efforts to track down those responsible for the killing of the DJ, who was shot dead in Johannesburg’s CBD on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.

Footage of SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirming the progress quickly circulated on social media, prompting an outpouring of reactions from concerned South Africans.

Speaking in the video shared by Newszroom Afrika, Mathe clarified that while two individuals had been brought in by detectives, no arrests had yet been made.

She explained that the suspects were being questioned to determine whether there was enough evidence to formally charge them.

“We can recall that the national commissioner committed that there would be a breakthrough by Monday,” Mathe said.

“In this particular case, we can confirm that Gauteng police, led by Lieutenant General Mthombeni, have taken two suspects in for questioning.”

She stressed that the process was still at an early stage.

“We have not arrested them; it’s just questioning this morning, and they are being questioned by our detectives. They will then provide us with an update on whether they will make the necessary arrests,” she added.

Mathe went on to commend the provincial team for their efforts, saying, “For now, I can confirm the two people are being questioned on the DJ Warras case. Kudos to the Gauteng police for working extra hard.”

The update follows a public commitment by National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, who had promised a breakthrough in the case over the weekend.

While the confirmation of questioning has brought renewed hope, many social media users remain anxious for arrests and justice for the slain DJ.
