Victor Mthethwa Majola’s bail hearing in DJ Warras murder case postponed

Victor Mthethwa Majola, the man accused of murdering media personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, will remain in custody after his bail hearing was postponed to January 13.

Majola, 44, appeared briefly before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the matter was delayed to allow the state to complete verification of his residential address.

He is facing Schedule 6 charges, including premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder, which carry the possibility of life imprisonment if he is convicted.

The National Prosecuting Authority has indicated it will strongly oppose bail due to the seriousness of the offences and the ongoing investigation.

During proceedings, the state also addressed allegations by the defence that Majola was assaulted by police during his arrest.

Questions were raised about whether he received medical treatment while in custody at the Johannesburg Correctional Services facility, an issue the court noted but did not resolve.

DJ Warras was shot and killed on December 16 outside the Zambesi House building in Johannesburg’s CBD while conducting security enforcement duties.

CCTV footage that later surfaced allegedly shows several individuals approaching him shortly before the shooting.

Majola was arrested on December 23 at Merafe Hostel in Mapetla, Soweto.

A female co-accused who was arrested with him has since had her charges provisionally withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that additional arrests may follow.

The case is expected to return to court on January 13, when Majola’s bail application will be heard.
