Award-winning radio presenter Penny Ntuli has officially announced her departure from Jozi FM, closing a chapter she describes as one of the most meaningful and career-shaping periods of her life.

Ntuli joined the Johannesburg-based community radio station in 2024, initially intending to stay for just six months before returning to KwaZulu-Natal.

However, in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, she revealed that the station’s welcoming culture and supportive work environment convinced her to stay for nearly two years.

During her time at Jozi FM, Ntuli stepped far outside her comfort zone by broadcasting in multiple languages, a challenge she says helped her grow both professionally and personally.

“I learned new languages, and while it wasn’t easy, the listeners were incredibly patient. And my colleagues helped me grow every step of the way,” she said.

Her growth did not go unnoticed. In less than two years, Ntuli became a two-time award-winning radio presenter, a milestone she credits to the mentorship, guidance and encouragement she received at the station.

As she prepares for the next phase of her career, Ntuli expressed deep gratitude to Jozi FM’s leadership and staff, including station head Baba Njomane, management, HR and her direct supervisor.

“With everything I’ve gained here, I feel ready to grow and move on to new opportunities,” she said, adding that her time at Jozi FM will always hold a special place in her journey.

Before joining Jozi FM, Ntuli was a presenter at Gagasi FM in KwaZulu-Natal, where she previously made headlines after revealing the circumstances surrounding her departure.

At the time, she disclosed that she had been offered R2,800 a month for a three-hour show, a figure she described as deeply disappointing.

“I felt unappreciated and disrespected,” Ntuli wrote then, explaining that her request for a salary review was declined. “Ayanda Melansi suggested that I consider other things other than being on air. I then took the decision to ask them not to renew my contract.”

Despite receiving another well-paying radio offer in September 2024, Ntuli chose not to accept it immediately, instead consulting with Jozi FM’s leadership.

She has now confirmed that she is ready to take the next step, carrying with her the skills, confidence and recognition earned during her time at the station.
