SAPS explains CCTV mismatch as alleged DJ Warras killer appears in court

Fresh details have emerged in the murder case of popular broadcaster DJ Warras, born Warrick Stock, following the court appearance of a Mozambican national accused of pulling the trigger.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Armindo Joaquim Pacula, appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 February 2026.

Pacula was arrested on Friday, 30 January, and is the second suspect linked to the fatal shooting of DJ Warras, who was killed in the Johannesburg CBD on Tuesday, 16 December 2026.

His appearance sparked intense debate online, with many social media users questioning whether the man in court matched the individual seen in leaked CCTV footage from the night of the shooting.

The footage had shown a suspect with dreadlocks, while Pacula appeared clean-cut in court.

The South African Police Service later addressed the growing speculation, explaining the apparent discrepancy.

According to police, Pacula allegedly cut off his dreadlocks before his arrest. Officers told the court that the dreadlocks were found inside the shack in Primrose where the suspect was apprehended.

SAPS further revealed that a plastic bag believed to have been used to conceal the firearm during the killing was also recovered at the arrest location.

However, police confirmed that the murder weapon itself has not yet been found.
