DJ Sbu denies corruption claims following Madlanga Commission testimony

DJ Sbu considers taking legal action following corruption allegation linked to the City of Ekurhuleni

Radio presenter and entrepreneur Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope has issued a strong denial after being implicated in alleged corruption linked to the City of Ekurhuleni during testimony at the Madlanga Commission.

In a formal statement released on Monday, 09, February, 2026, Sbu dismissed the allegations made by suspended Ekurhuleni head of Legal and Risk Services, Advocate Kemi Behari, describing them as “false, misleading, and unsubstantiated.”

Behari had testified that DJ Sbu and businessman Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza allegedly benefited from municipal funds tied to events and grants.

“These allegations, which attempt to implicate myself and businessman Thembinkosi TK Nciza, are entirely false, defamatory, and without any factual basis,” DJ Sbu said.

“I categorically deny any involvement in wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical activity of any kind.”

DJ Sbu said he was concerned that the claims were being used to shift focus away from other internal issues within the municipality.

“I am deeply concerned that these allegations appear to be part of an attempt to divert attention from ongoing internal matters and personal accountability issues by creating false narratives involving respected public figures,” he stated.

At the commission, Behari told chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga that an investigation into Ekurhuleni senior manager Mojapelo was abruptly shut down despite evidence of misconduct.

The probe allegedly involved more than R100 million in municipal grants for events, which Behari claimed benefited DJ Sbu and TK Nciza.

He further alleged that the municipality lost an additional R200 million through poor rates management.

“All [investigations] have been blocked. And that is why now I’m facing repercussions—because Nciza mentioned one thing,” Behari told the commission.

In response, DJ Sbu insisted he had neither benefited from any improper conduct nor influenced legal or administrative processes.

“I have not participated in any illegal activity. I have not benefited from any improper conduct. I have not influenced any legal or administrative processes unlawfully,” he said, adding that “any suggestion to the contrary is a fabrication.”

DJ Sbu also indicated that he is considering legal action.

“I reserve all my legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements and will not hesitate to pursue appropriate action should these false claims continue to damage my reputation and personal brand,” he said.

He concluded by urging the public and the media to verify information before spreading it, while reaffirming his willingness to cooperate with lawful investigations.

“I will continue to cooperate fully with any lawful investigation and welcome any process that is grounded in fairness, evidence, and justice,” he said.
