South African cricketer Grant Rowley dies at 47

South African cricket is in mourning following the sudden death of former Hollywoodbets Dolphins batsman Grant Rowley at the age of 47.

Affectionately known as “Rowls,” Rowley was more than just a dependable presence with the bat, he was regarded as a loyal teammate, a proud Dolphin, and a passionate servant of the domestic game.

His passing on Friday, 13 February 2026, has sent shockwaves through the cricket fraternity, with tributes pouring in from former teammates, supporters, and members of the wider cricket community.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement shared on social media, expressing deep sadness over the loss of their former player, partner and friend.

The team said Rowley wore the Dolphins badge “with immense pride” and remained a faithful and enthusiastic member of the family long after his professional playing days came to an end.

They added that his commitment to the sport and the bonds he built within the squad stretched far beyond match days.

“He remained a faithful, friendly and highly passionate part of the Dolphins family,” the statement read, adding that his impact and the memories he created would forever form part of the team’s legacy.

While Rowley earned respect for his contributions on the field, it was his character off it that many have chosen to remember, a dedicated figure in domestic cricket who left a lasting impression on those who shared a dressing room with him.

He is survived by his wife, Kirsty, and their two sons.

As messages of condolence continue to flood social media, South African cricket reflects on the life of a man whose influence reached well beyond the boundary ropes.
