Naledi Aphiwe criticized in Zimbabwe over past comment ahead of Ama2k Fest

Zimbabweans digs up Naledi Aphiwe’s old tweet ahead of Harare Ama2k Fest
South African singer Naledi Aphiwe has found herself at the centre of online controversy ahead of her scheduled performance at the Ama2k Fest in Harare on 4 April 2026.
The drama began when a past social media comment by the artist resurfaced, which some interpreted as insulting toward Zimbabweans.
On Sunday, 22 February 2026, X (formerly Twitter) user @DillenMasawi shared a promotional poster for the festival, highlighting headline performances by Nigerian artist Ruger, alongside Naledi Aphiwe and South African musician Scotts Maphuma.
The post drew attention to Naledi, with the caption questioning her relevance and referencing the old comment: “Besides having one known song, Naledi Uyo didn’t she insult Zimbabwe last year? Haa ndezvema 2K sure (It is an Ama2k Festival for real)😂😂😂😂😂😂😂”
The resurfaced post prompted a wave of reactions online.
Some Zimbabweans expressed concern over how she might be received at the show, while others defended Naledi, insisting her previous response was not meant as an insult.
Social media users also took aim at other aspects of the festival’s lineup. @UncleBojanhates questioned the inclusion of certain performers: “Yahya arikutsvagei hake apa honestly? (What is Yahya doing on that lineup, honestly?) Make it make sense.”
Another user, @esco_mf, weighed in on the old comment, asking: “Kuudza vanhu kuti endai munomdimirira kuZimbabwe kutuka here? (Telling people to go and wait for her in Zimbabwe is an insult?)”
Meanwhile, @walexer criticised the festival organiser, writing: “The promoter is disrespecting people.”
