Durban hitmaker DJ Boonu passes away

DJ Boonu has died

The Durban entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the unexpected death of DJ Boonu, a respected figure known for his influence both behind the decks and behind the camera.

Born Andile Chili in Umlazi, DJ Boonu rose to prominence in 2017 with his hit track “uSwidi Wodwa,” a release that helped cement his place in the local music scene.

Over the years, he built a strong brand through his company, Swidi Films, where he not only produced music but also played a key role in shaping visual storytelling for emerging artists.

His work extended beyond his own success, as he collaborated with established names like Big Nuz and Bhar, further solidifying his reputation as a creative force.

Those close to the industry often described him as a connector; someone who uplifted others while quietly building his own legacy.

Away from music, DJ Boonu was equally driven in business.

He ventured into filmmaking and reportedly ran a tissue manufacturing company, reflecting a hustle that went far beyond entertainment.

According to sources, the artist passed away suddenly, with news of his death spreading quickly and leaving friends and family in disbelief.

Emotional scenes reportedly unfolded at his family home as loved ones gathered, struggling to come to terms with the loss.

“We were together a day or two ago and he was his usual energetically self. We are still wrapping our heads around and we will advise when we know all the details,” a friend shared.
