Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s husband faces tax trouble

The husband of legendary singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka is facing serious legal trouble after appearing in court over a sweeping tax case that spans more than a decade.

Dr Leonard Mandlalele “Tiny” Mhinga, a 73-year-old businessman and medical professional, was hauled before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, where he is battling 102 charges related to alleged tax violations.

According to the State, Mhinga is accused of failing to meet his tax obligations over several years, with claims that he did not submit income tax returns from 2007 to 2022, and also allegedly defaulted on VAT submissions between 2009 and 2023.

NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole outlined the seriousness of the allegations, stating: “It is further alleged that this conduct was unlawful and, in certain instances, wilful, resulting in multiple charges under South African tax legislation.”

Those close to the matter describe the case as a long-running pattern of non-compliance that has finally caught up with the businessman, with reports pointing to what insiders call a “decade of missing tax returns.”

The development has shocked many fans of the “Princess of Africa,” whose marriage to Mhinga has long been admired as one of the most stable in the entertainment space.

Buzz Life reports that prosecutors allege there is a lengthy paper trail of financial irregularities that could carry serious consequences if proven in court.

The case was briefly heard before being postponed to 6 May 2026, giving the defence time to prepare its next move. Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority has maintained a firm stance on the matter.

“The NPA remains steadfast… ensuring accountability,” Mohlatlole said.

As proceedings continue, the high-profile case is expected to draw even more public attention in the coming weeks.
