Albert Mazibuko funeral and memorial details confirmed

Musician Albert’s memorial and funeral details announced
Award-winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has officially shared the memorial and funeral arrangements for its late founding member, Albert Mazibuko, following days of uncertainty after announcing his passing.
The group confirmed Mazibuko’s death earlier this week, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans and the wider music community.
In a new statement, they expressed gratitude for the support received during what they described as a deeply painful time.
“Ladysmith Black Mambazo, together with the family of Albert Mazibuko, wish to express our deepest gratitude to the media houses, supporters, and all South Africans who have offered their love, prayers, and condolences during this time of profound loss. Your support does not go unnoticed and is deeply felt by all whose lives Albert touched,” the statement read.
They also addressed the delay in announcing the funeral details, explaining that ongoing international commitments made it impossible to hold the services sooner.
“The group is currently on international tour and is scheduled to return to South Africa this coming Sunday, 12 April 2026. Due to these commitments, it has been impossible to hold the funeral services sooner. We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown during this period,” they added.
According to the confirmed arrangements, Mazibuko’s memorial service will take place on Wednesday, 15 April 2026 in Durban, while the funeral service is set for Saturday, 18 April in Estcourt, Entabamhlophe.
“We kindly request continued prayers for Albert’s family and the Ladysmith Black Mambazo family as we prepare to honour his extraordinary life and legacy. Hamba kahle, Mwelase. Your harmony endures,” the statement concluded.
Mazibuko’s passing marks the loss of a key figure in one of South Africa’s most celebrated musical groups, with his legacy expected to live on through the timeless sound that defined Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
