Nickelodeon celebrates SpongeBob SquarePants’ 36th birthday by premiering the first ever Zulu episode on Thursday, 14 July.
The essence of the episode to is teach Zulu which is one of South Africa’s official languages.
According to Daily Sun, the episode premiered on NickToons, DStv channel 308, and will repeat on Friday, 15 July at 2.30 pm.
Nickelodeon aims to entertain and educate its viewers; it also made Africans proud with the introduction of the Zulu language.
Nickelodeon Africa senior vice-president, Dillon Khan, said:
“We are thrilled to present the premiere of the first ever SpongeBob SquarePants episode in Zulu. This is a milestone first in Africa. This provides audiences the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the iconic world of Bikini Bottom like never before.
“This is one of the many steps we are taking in our commitment to being more inclusive and more localised while celebrating Africa’s rich and colourful heritage and local languages,” said Khan.
