To live in a society or a big neighbourhood, it is important to have a good relationship with your neighbours.
Firstly, it maintains peace and secondly, you never know when you need help. Even if it is something like just checking if your door is closed when you are not at home.
If he or she can take your delivery package. More than your friends, there are situations when your neighbours have come in more handy and extremely helpful in some life saving situations as well.
So here are some tips on how you can maintain a good relationship with your neighbour.
1. Exchanging pleasantries
It all begins with a simple hi when you see them or a good morning wish. Be warm and friendly but don’t overdo it as not many people like that either.
2. Keep a check on the disturbances
Maintain a decorum and respect your neighbours. Do not play very loud music, if you see them in the corridor, a simple hi or a wave is enough. Don’t go and start talking to them until needed. Many find this irritating and then they tend to avoid you.
3. Helping
If you can see that they are getting a white wash done or are sitting outside due to some issue and you know you can help then go ahead. Offer tea or water, ask if they want to come inside instead of waiting outside. Take their delivery package if they are not home (as per situation). Just be helpful when you can.
4. The gifting game
Now, before getting the wrong idea here, what we mean is that when the festival season is coming up, depending on what you celebrate, take a small card with a little gift. Make sure it is small but useful instead of being big, expensive and useless. A small cake from a bakery or a green tea box with a card would also do. Don’t impose anything, let it just be a small wishing-you gift.
5. Ignorance is bliss
Not everything but small things must be ignored. Nobody is perfect! If your neighbour did something unintentionally then analyse if it is worthy of your fussing over or not. Control your anger because you have to stay with them for a long time. Unless of course it is overstepping some limits and boundaries.
