When it comes to a manicure, every woman wants her nails to stay intact for two to three weeks at least.

But when you indulge in a DIY manicure, even a week without any chipping would be perfect.

Our hands have to bear the brunt of the household work, typing etc – especially these days, when everyone’s taking care of the daily chores, sanitizing everything around and working long hours.

We thought of sharing some tricks on how to prevent your nail polish from smudging or chipping and make your manicure last longer.

Wipe clean your nails

First and foremost, you need to pat dry your nails. Use your nail polish remover and wipe down your nails. This helps in getting rid of any kind of natural oils from your nails that can get in the way of your nail polish adhering to the surface.

File your nails right

The right way to even out your nails is by filing them in just one direction. Going back and forth with the filing tool will only use the nails to break and get brittle. Regularly filing your nails will help them prevent from breakage, which in turn contributes to less chipping.

Basecoat is very important

A high-quality base-coat is a sure-shot way to make your manicure last longer. It will strengthen your nails and will also protect them from staining and lead to a much smoother nail polish application. This means less chipping!

Concentrate on the application

Too much polish on the brush will lead to a bumpy finish that will take a long time to dry. Take just enough polish on the brush so that you can cover the entire nail in just one coat. Paint your nails in three stripes – one on each side and one down the middle. More swipes than three will only lead to streaky and uneven application. You need to make sure that you wait for two minutes before you apply the next coat. The longer you wait between coats, the better.

Maintain your nails

Apply a coat of nail hardener and repeat application after a few days again. This will help your manicure last well for a week. You can also apply nail oil daily so that it can prevent your nails from drying out and splitting. The drier the nails are, the more they will break.
