9 bra things you got wrong your entire life
on
We think we know everything about our bra – wash them weekly to keep it intact, wear it with hooks at your back and always close it in the last hook.
If you do these or any of these, you have got it out of order. Here we break nine common myths about brassiere that you need to get over.
And no, you don’t have to wear them at night to keep your bosom perky.
Fact: Many believe that with the support of bras, your body loses its ability to naturally support the breasts by forming supportive muscles. The same was also established by a French study that claimed that wearing brassieres harms body’s natural support to them, causing them to sag over time. But, this isn’t true. Breasts are not abs that train by working out. They don’t even have muscles for that matter; they are made of just skin, fat and ligaments. So, wear them without worrying that your bras is sagging your pair.
Fact: There is no evidence to substantiate the above. It’s only normal to un-cage your bosom to allow some fresh air at the end of each day. The drooping is only a natural process that occurs due to factors like gravity, pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Wearing your bra to bed is not the way out of it.
Fact: Many say that you shouldn’t wash them too often to make them last longer as they are too delicate to be washed every time. However, that should not be the case. Not just your bra but any cloth loses its life due to dirt, oil and sweat from your skin. It’s only sensible to wash them after every wear.
Fact: There are many contradictory studies on this subject, some affirming the case while some refuting it. A tight-fitting bra is known to be the culprit behind causing of cancer. However, the lymphatics inside the breast do not get compressed by the underwire due to their position. So, there isn’t evidence to prove if a tight-fitting bra can cause breast cancer.
Fact: Your bra and breast size may remain the same through a few years but your bra needs to be changed. With time, bras lose their elasticity, get stretched, their underwire gets bent and their cup shapes get distorted. They are not able to provide optimum support to your bosom. The maximum you should use them is for two years, that is, when you are taking good care of them.
Fact: This is only about making your brassiere last longer. When you wash them in a machine, its straps and hooks can get tossed up and down, making it wear away sooner. However, if you are too busy to wash them by hand and don’t mind replacing your lingerie more frequently, it’s absolutely fine to wash them in a washing machine.
Fact: Don’t just settle for a 36C in one brand because that’s your size in another. Different companies use different models to determine the sizes of their merchandise. So, try the fit at every new store you go to to buy lingerie.
