Mzansi Magic’s telenovela ‘Gqeberha: The Empire canned

Mzansi Magic telenovela Gqeberha-The Empire has been cancelled.

The report comes months after DStv rubbished cancellation reports which made headlines.

In July, famous entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela announced that the show has been canned.

In a statement released on DStv’s website, the channel confirmed that Gqeberha: The Empire is scheduled to remain on-air for the foreseeable future.

“Plans are in progress for the next season and further details will be communicated in due course. Mzansi Magic has just been made aware of the allegations of mistreatment of the cast. We take such allegations seriously, and we will be reaching out to the production house to verify the same.

Gqeberha: The Empire has been welcomed by our audiences, as a great avenue to connect with the beautiful region of the Eastern Cape, and we are proud of what this project has achieved in this province,” read the statement.

On Monday, Phil Mphela returns with the same report again.

“After 520 episodes and 2 seasons, the Mzansi Magic telenovela will be coming to an end. The show is produced by Tshedza Pictures,” he wrote on Twitter.

Social media users seem happy about the cancellation as they are not impressed with the story.

“They must also take every film equipment away from the production team and make it a point that none of those writers get to write for any show ever again,” a tweep wrote.
