Actress Itumeleng Bokaba reveals she earned only 59 cents for her contribution to Kwesta’s hit song, Mayibabo.
The song which was released in 2016, featured DJ Maphorisa, DJ Bucks, and Okmalumkoolkat.
Taking to TikTok, the former Rhythm City star shared a screenshot of the royalty payment.
The talented artist revealed she fought to earn what is deserved but lost at the end of the day.
“I fought for that song, but anyway I didn’t win, you don’t win all of the battles in life it’s fine. I’m trying to launch my own music so it’s okay I will get there,” said Itulemeng Bokaba.
This revelation from the actress sparked a stir on social media as people frowned at the exploitation that has eaten deep into the music industry.
A Twitter user wrote, “Can we speak about how her chorus is the only thing I remember from the song? The rest I cannot remember…. No Music Industry ye South Africa inama demon waka Engima Struu!!!”
Yoh these guys are dangerous, she didn’t even get credit for a big song like that? imagine where she would be now coz she was also popular on rhythm city that time
