Considering the complex times we live in, modern relationships and marriages too have become quite complicated these days.

People quickly fall in love with others, and they are equally fast to move from one relationship to the next.

But what makes some people’s marriages successful, while others are unable to survive the test of time?

Here we list some common mistakes men often make unknowingly that destroy their marriages in the long run.

Read on to know more.

1. Taking their partner for granted

As time progresses in a marriage, partners get more comfortable with each other. While this is a good thing, some people also start taking their spouse for granted which negatively affects their relationship. Many women often complain about how their husbands have changed after marriage, and how they don’t appreciate them or shower them with love and attention any more. While it might sound like a trivial issue initially, when not addressed this problem can quickly escalate into a lack of love between the partners. Remember, being in love and marriage is a choice which one needs to make every day. Spending some quality time together can greatly help build a better relationship with your spouse as it will give you both the time and space to understand each other better.

2. Not listening to their spouse

Women often complain that their husbands don’t listen to them; on the contrary, men often complain that their wives don’t hear them out when they give solutions to their problems! However, men need to understand that if their wives are telling them about their problems or fears, in most cases they just want someone to hear them out instead of giving them solutions or simply nodding to what they say. Practising active listening is what will make men connect with their spouses. This will make their wife feel heard and understood, which can greatly help in building a healthy relationship.

3. Not helping with household chores

While the situation is changing, many men still think that taking care of the house or children is a woman’s job. And when they don’t help their spouse with this, it often leads to arguments and fights. Such men need to understand that they need to change along with the times and that there is no harm in taking care of their own house and kids. Instead, helping their partner with household chores will only help them bond better and create a healthy relationship.

4. Not showing empathy to their wife

Empathy is the ability to understand others’ feelings and it is one of the most important factors for any healthy relationship to thrive. When partners fail to understand each other’s point of view, they feel underheard and neglected. If this continues for a long time, it will eventually lead them to disconnect from the relationship. Instead, practising mindfulness and empathy in the marriage can help one overcome challenges and grow stronger as a couple.

5. They let outsiders have too much influence in their marriage

Be it their families, relatives or friends, when men let others influence them too much, especially in matters related to their marriage, it often leads to conflicts with their spouse. Men need to understand that after marriage, one’s partner should be their top priority. While it is okay to listen to other people’s advice and points of view, one needs to have a balance and decide wisely how much they let others influence their marriage and personal life.
