Nhlanhla takes a break from Mafikizolo

Nhlanhla Mafu focuses on her solo music career following almost three decades of being part of Mafikizolo.

Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo, consisting of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Mafu, has enjoyed a long and successful run in the music industry, with over 28 years together and no indication of parting ways.

Despite losing their third member, Tebogo “Tebza” Madingoane, to a tragic shooting in 2004, the group has continued to thrive. However, Nhlanhla has recently been focusing on her solo career, which has sparked some speculation about the group’s future.

Nhlanhla has taken on more solo bookings outside of Mafikizolo and recently released a new single titled Ngithanda Wena, featuring DJ Tira and Amatycooler.

This move has led to rumors that the duo might be splitting up. A close friend of Nhlanhla noted, “She’s definitely pushing harder on her solo career and taking her own bookings outside of the duo. People still love Mafikizolo, but every group member deserves to explore individual opportunities.”

The same friend also mentioned that Nhlanhla and Theo Kgosinkwe had a disagreement earlier in the year, further fueling speculations.

In addition to her solo music efforts, Nhlanhla has relaunched her traditional wedding gown line under her clothing brand NN Vintage, further establishing herself as a distinct brand outside of Mafikizolo.

In an interview, Nhlanhla explained, “Theo and I have always had our own individual managers because we are two unique brands within Mafikizolo. The group continues to work together, and we have a separate manager for Mafikizolo as a unit. Both myself and Theo will announce our individual and joint projects as they come up.”

She emphasized that her latest single Ngithanda Wena is also tied to the launch of her Shweshwe bridal range, showing her dedication to both her music and fashion ventures.

While Nhlanhla’s solo career is on the rise, it seems that Mafikizolo will continue, albeit with more room for individual growth for its members.
