Thuso Mbedu is set to shine in an upcoming film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, based on Tomi Adeyemi’s 2018 best-selling coming-of-age fantasy novel.

The film is scheduled to debut in theaters on January 15, 2027, in IMAX.

“In an African fantasy kingdom, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule,” reads the official synopsis.

Leading the Children of Blood and Bone movie are Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King) as Zelie, Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) as Amari, Damson Idris (Snowfall) as Inan, and Tosin Cole (Supacell) as Tzain. The action fantasy will also star acclaimed actors Viola Davis (The Woman King) as Mama Agba, Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) as Admiral Kaea, Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) as Lekan, Lashana Lynch (Bob Marley: One Love) as Jumoke, and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as King Saran.

Taking to social media, the South African actress expressed excitement over the new project which she calls a gift.

“Children of Blood and Bone” was gifted to me in 2019 and, truly, it’s one of the best gifts I’ve received. Upon reading it I fell in love with it – to the point that I made it a prayer point 😅🤣😂🤣😭 Before heading to Philly earlier last year I felt the most random need to go through old journals and there it was: a prayer point, a bold ask to God to be the lead of this amazing story 🙈 to sit here and draft this announcement is mind-boggling.”

“To know that I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people as we tell this great story is truly humbling. I’m so excited. I’m so grateful. Thank you @tomiadeyemi for your gift to the world🫶🏾 Thank you to everyone who continues to support and show up for us. We will make you proud. @gpbmadeit,” she captioned post.
