Donell Mbele, the 23-year-old son of actress Sonia Mbele, has returned to social media following his release on R1000 bail.
The young man made his first post of the year on Instagram, sharing over 10 selfies. He captioned the post with the phrase “God’s Child,” but disabled comments on the image.
Mbele’s release came after he appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He is facing two charges of rape following an alleged incident that took place on December 14 and 15, 2024.
According to Phindi Mjonondwana, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the charges stem from a complaint filed with the Sandton South African Police Service (SAPS) by Mbele’s 17-year-old girlfriend.
She claims Mbele raped her at his Morningside residence on the aforementioned dates.
Mjonondwana explained that the couple had gone on a date at Clear Water Mall on December 14. After having drinks and realizing the restaurant was about to close, they agreed to move to a different venue.
It was at this point that Mbele allegedly suggested they stop by his house to charge his phone, where the incidents are said to have occurred.
Meanwhile, Donell’s case was postponed to February 10, 2025.
