Anele Mdoda replies a troll who labeled her a groupie for celebrating the late AKA’s 37th birthday.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the radio presenter wrote, “Happy birthday SuperMega!!! AKA!!!! Really miss this guy man. The industry misses him. 37 today. Gone but never forgotten.”
An online user reacted by dragging Anele.
“Ey you really are a groupie,” reads the tweet directed to the radio personality.
A groupie is often meant as an insult, implying that the person is overly obsessed with or blindly devoted to someone—whether a celebrity, influencer, or even just a popular figure in a certain circle.
It can suggest that they lack individuality, are desperate for attention from that person, or are trying too hard to be part of their inner circle.
However, Anele Mdoda was not moved by the insult, as she explained that’s if supporting and celebrating other people’s success makes a her a groupie, then she’s proudly one.
“Proudly my babe!! I’m the biggest groupie of people in my industry. Just today I bought the glamour magazine with AMA Qamata on it. Tomorrow I’m looking for Ayanda Thabethe’s quick face make up at clicks. Trying to see if I can fly SAA to LA next month so I can taste Lorna Maseko’s curated menu! I’m a groupie,” she tweeted.
