Businessman Joseph ‘Joe’ Safra, also known by various aliases, including Aeghatidis Andreas Socrate and more recently Dr. Jonathan Rothschild, has passed away.
According to Zimoja, a close associate confirmed his death, though his family has not yet disclosed the cause.
Safra, widely known for his controversial dealings, was once romantically linked to singer Vusi Nova.
He allegedly deceived high-profile celebrities and business executives by claiming to be the heir of Brazilian billionaire Joseph Safra.
Operating under this false identity, he presented himself as a global businessman running the so-called Safra Group, where he lured people into an employment scam, promising lucrative salaries of up to R65,000 per month.
His fraudulent activities caught up with him when he was charged with defrauding Leon Kruger and his wife, Catharina Johanna Kruger, out of nearly R1 million between 2011 and 2014.
Using an elaborate scheme, he assumed the persona of a wealthy Brazilian billionaire, Dr. Joseph Safra Sr., allegedly leading a company called Safrasa Investments.
During this time, Vusi Nova was listed as the managing director. Both were arrested in 2014, but the singer was later released due to insufficient evidence.
