South African music star Tyla has been named to the newly elected MET Gala Costume Institute benefit host committee.
The Metropolitan Museum has officially unveiled the much-anticipated theme, dress code, and co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala, set to take place in May.
This year’s theme, “Tailored for You,” will see some of the world’s biggest stars celebrating the art of menswear and suiting through their unique interpretations.
In addition to the star-studded co-host lineup—featuring cultural icons like Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, Pharrell Williams, Coleman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky—the Met’s Costume Institute is reviving a longstanding tradition: the host committee.
This exclusive group of influential figures from various industries will stand alongside the main hosts, reinforcing the event’s global reach.
Among the celebrated names on this prestigious committee is none other than South Africa’s very own ‘pretty girl from Joburg’, marking yet another milestone in her ever-evolving career.
She joins a powerful roster of global figures, including record-breaking athletes Sha’Carri Richardson, Angel Reese, Simone Biles, celebrated musicians Janelle Monáe and Doechii, and award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, among others.
