Musa Khawula abandons bail again

Controversial blogger and social commentator Musawenkosi “Musa” Khawula has once again abandoned his bail application, choosing to remain behind bars.

The 33-year-old appeared at the Fochville Magistrate’s Court today, facing an attempted murder charge stemming from a 2021 incident.

This case adds to his growing legal woes, which also include separate murder and defamation cases.

Two weeks ago, Musa also abandoned bail at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, where he faces charges under the Cybercrime Act and criminal injuria.

His arrest last month in KwaZulu-Natal followed accusations that he made defamatory remarks about businessman Ze Nxumalo and his wife, former Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo. After being ordered to apologise, he issued what many perceived as a sarcastic response.

In the attempted murder case, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana stated that Musa was also charged with reckless driving for allegedly hitting a man with a Volkswagen Polo near Mponeng Mine in 2021 before fleeing the scene.

He was initially granted bail but later failed to appear in court, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

The matter has been postponed to February 13 for a formal bail application at a regional court, while Musa is also set to reappear in Randburg on February 18.
